The Clinical Studies on Sheehan Syndrome

Abstract
The authors studied on 40 cases of Sheehan Syndrome clinically. The results were as follows:
1. There were 21 cases (52. 5%) in 3rd decade and 11 cases (27.5%) in 2nd decade.
2. The hypogonadotrophic gonadal failure was almost in all cases, and also secondary hypothyroidism and hypoadrenocortism in more than half cases.
3. In 35 of 40 cases, the oral glucose tolerance test was noted flat curve, and in 29 cases the fasting blood sugar was noted abnormal low value.
4. There were the moderate anemia in 30 cases, moderately or severe increased ESR in 27 cases and the eosinophilia in 19 cases of 40 cases on peripheral blood counts
5. In 5 cases of 30 cases carrying out the LFT the abnormal retention of B.S.P. and in 3 cases the mild positive colloidal reaction were noted.
6. The serum electrolyte revealed the hyponatremia in 7 cases of 30 cases.
7. The BMR showed the low value in 26 cases of 40 cases, the 131I uptake test was decreased in 18 cases of 35 cases and urinary ketosteroid was decreased in 19 cases of 35 cases.
8. It is interesting to find the 2 cases with the Sheehan Syndrome combined with diabetes insipidus and the 6 cases with the adrenal crisis.
